Day 22 | The Star
If you have ever been to Disney World, you have experienced how anticipation explodes into joy and excitement when you finally arrive on the grounds of the “Magic Kingdom.” For months, Disney sends reminders about your trip through email. They tell you about all of the amazing things that await you upon your arrival—and the closer it gets, the more excited you become. About a month before the trip you receive “Magic Bands”—something like a wrist watch, it is the ticket to get into the Disney Park. As you drive toward Disney, from any direction, you begin to see road signs that tell you how close you are to the gates of the Kingdom. When you finally arrive, all the waiting pays off as you walk into the “happiest place on earth.”
This is why the wise men were “overwhelmed with joy” when they witnessed the promised Star of David. These men had been anticipating the day when they would see this star rise out of the night’s sky. They believed God’s promise to send a Savior-King and they knew that this star was the sign that this promise was coming true! They had been anticipating the arrival of Jesus because they remembered and trusted in the promises of God in His Word!
Jesus has already come to pay for our sin. But we still wait His second coming when Jesus will finally fulfill every promise of God! May we be “wise men” (and women) as we await the real “Magic Kingdom.”
Memory Verse | Matthew 2:10
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
What excites you most about Christmas?
Why should be overwhelmed with joy on Christmas day?
How should we look forward to the second coming of Christ?
