Day 23 | The Light of the World
Luke 1:26-38 & 2:32
Here’s an idea….tonight turn out the lights in the room when your family or group has this devotion. If you are scared, sit very close to mommy or daddy. Have each person hold a candle. One person lights a candle. Notice how one lit candle drives out much of the darkness. That person then lights the candle of the next person. Continue until all candles are lit.
What a difference light makes! No amount of darkness can snuff out the least amount of light. You and I live in a dark world. There is hurt, pain, sadness, meanness and evil.
Jesus was born into a dark world as well. He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Jesus drove out darkness by shining the light. As we follow Jesus’ example of loving God and loving others, we can drive out darkness too. As we pray for others and share God’s word with them, we shine light into their darkness.
Let’s shine for Jesus!
Memory Verse | John 8:12
I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Are you afraid of the dark? How does it feel when someone turns on the light?
God’s word is a lamp to us. What is one of your favorite verses in the Bible?
Who do you know who is lost and needs to follow Jesus?
How can we shine for Jesus this week?
Dear, Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Light of the world. Thank you that we love You and follow You. Help us shine for You in this dark world. May our words and actions show people we love You and we love them, too.
