Day 6 | Jacob’s Ladder
As a young boy, my favorite thing to do during Christmas time was to help my father put the Christmas lights on the house. We would spend hours strategically placing each strand of light on the edge of our rooftop to get the maximum Christmas effect. My main job was to hold the ladder as my father hilariously attempted to create a holiday masterpiece. I will never forget sitting for hours watching my father go up and down that ladder waiting patiently for the time when we could finally light it all.
When I think back to sitting at the foot of that ladder, it reminds me of a story in scripture when God spoke to Jacob. Jacob was the son of Isaac and the brother of Esau. Jacob tricked his brother Esau into selling him his birthright. This deception made Esau very mad leading Jacob to run from his brother for fear of losing his life.
Jacob knew that he had treated his brother badly; and yet, God chose to work with Jacob and his family. God gave Jacob a vision of a ladder in a dream one night. The ladder stretched from Earth to Heaven and had angels moving up and down it. This ladder symbolized how God would continue to fulfill His promises to Jacob in spite of his failure. This brought Jacob great joy and courage! We too should rejoice to know that just as God was with Jacob, He will be with us!
Memory Verse | Genesis 12:3b
In thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Have you ever been disobedient on purpose?
According to Romans 5:8, how does God treat us when we are disobedient?
Lord teach me to trust that you love me even when I sin.
