Day 7 | Joseph’s Coat of Many Colors

Day 7 | Joseph’s Coat of Many Colors

Genesis 37:3-36 & 50:18-21

Devotion

Do you trust that God is always good? Sometimes we may think God is being good, and sometimes we may believe He’s just plain mean. Joseph is a man from history that had every reason to think God was not good. He was his dad’s favorite, so his dad gave him a colorful coat to show his favoritism.  His brothers did not like it, so they sold him into slavery and then he was sent to prison for a crime he did not commit.  I’m sure there were times he wondered, “God are you still there? God have you forgotten about me?”  But before all those bad things happened, Joseph had a dream that he would one day rule over his family.  God had shown him this vision in dreams but now he was in prison. So how was this going to come true?  Does God make promises that He cannot keep?

Not at all! God is working even when we cannot see Him working! God used all the easy times and all the hard times in Joseph’s life to make His promise come true.We can trust God is good and God wants the best for us, even when we cannot see all He is doing.

Memory Verse | Romans 8:28a

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God.

Questions

  • What happened to Joseph that could have made him doubt God?

  • What are things in your life or not in your life that make you question God?

  • What are promises from Scripture that God has promised and we can trust He will keep?

Prayer

God, thank you for the faith of Joseph. Thank you that you are a good God that gives good gifts to His children. Help us trust You even when we cannot see how You are working good in our circumstances.
