Day 9 | Canaan, the Promised Land of Blessings
Numbers 13:1-2, 17-23 & 27
Object Lesson: (Option 1) Buy some grapes from the store. Try to pull out the biggest “cluster” of grapes and explain what a cluster is. (Option 2) Google a picture of a large cluster of grapes on your phone, tablet or computer. Ask your children if they can imagine a “cluster” so big that two men had to hang it on a pole just to carry it.
Devotion: When the Israelites reached the Promised Land that God lead them to Moses sent out twelve men to go see what the land was like. These men returned with all kinds of fruit, reporting that the land had all good things, but the Israelites were too afraid to go into the land.
God had led the Israelites to the Promised Land. He wanted to give them many blessings, including lots of good food but they were too afraid to trust Him. They disobeyed Him and had to wait forty years before God would let them go back into the land. It took the Israelites a long time to finally trust God but when they did, He was faithful to pour out His blessings on them and their new home.
Even today, it is hard to trust God in our lives, but the truth is God wants to give us many good things just as He did with the Israelites. All He asks is that we trust and obey. We can trust Him even when we are scared. He wants to bless you. (Read Jeremiah 29:11)
Memory Verse | Psalm 103:2
Bless the Lord, O my Soul, and forget not all his benefits.
Is there anything you are scared of right now?
Even when we are afraid, what does God ask us to do so that we can receive His blessings?
Lord, thank you for all that you have given us. Help us never to forget them and to trust You in the times when we might be scared or afraid what the future might be like. Thank you for the biggest blessing any of us can ever receive in Jesus, Your Son. Thank you for sending Him.
