How FAT are you?

How FAT are you?

Proverbs 19:27

27 If you stop listening to instruction, my child,

you will turn your back on knowledge.

Central Truth

The right attitude before God makes all the difference when it comes to gaining knowledge.

Devotional

How FAT are you?

No, I’m not talking about our body composition, but our spiritual position. Are we: F - faithful, A - available, and T - teachable?  These are three key ingredients for growing in the grace and knowledge of God.

There have been many times in my life when I haven’t been FAT, but none more so than when I was a teenager. I was doing my own thing and thought I knew a lot, which made it very hard to listen to my parents, friends, and even God. I had a hearing problem caused by my pride. The sad thing is that we can have these same hearing problems as adults when we do our own thing and begin to think we know a lot.

But if we humble ourselves, we quickly become FAT again and begin to grow in knowledge. So let us be faithful to God’s Word, available to serve God and others, and teachable by God’s Spirit and His followers. The more teachable I am, the more I grow without fail, and the times I’m not very teachable, I tend to stray away from God’s best for my life. So, Let us all be FAT!

Questions To Ponder

  • What is clear when we stop listening to those who would instruct us?

  • How are hearing and straying connected in this verse?

  • Spend some time praying to God for wisdom that comes from Him and a heart to never cease heeding instruction.

they only want to air their own opinions.”
