17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
As believers, our passion should be to know God and walk with Him daily.
As Paul prayed for the Ephesian believers, we too should pray for ourselves, our families, and our fellow believers.
What did Paul pray?
That God would give them
o The spirit of wisdom – insight into the true nature of things.
o Revelation - the unveiling - in the knowledge of God.
o The eyes of your understanding – heart – enlightened.
Paul prayed that believers would thoroughly and completely understand what they have as a child of God. That they would really get to know God, to experience God, to see and sense God at work in their lives. The more we know the God who loves and saved us the more we will praise Him, adore Him and worship Him. As we continue growing in our knowledge of God, the better we will hear His voice and the closer we will walk with Him.
Why should we pray in this way?
That you will know – factual knowledge
o The hope – assurance for the future - of His calling.
o The riches of His inheritance in the Saints – set apart ones.
Paul wants believers to absolutely know, when they accepted the call of God to salvation, their hope of a future with Him was secured. Jesus Christ is our living hope!! Paul also wants believers to understand that they – the Saints – are God’s inheritance. Just think about this – God is looking forward to the time He can be with you eternally, because Believers are His inheritance!!!!
Questions we should ask ourselves:
Are you as passionate about God as He is about you?
o God proved His passion for you because He sent His Son to die for you and pay your sin debt.
Do you have an over powering desire to know God, to walk in His ways, to be aware of His presence, and to clearly hear His voice?
Questions To Ponder
• What 3 thing does Paul tell us to ask God for?
• Why do you think he tells us to ask for these things?
Scripture Memory | March | Proverbs 21:30-31
“No human wisdom or understanding or plan
can stand against the Lord.
The horse is prepared for the day of battle,
but the victory belongs to the Lord.”
