Unity In The Body of Christ

Unity In The Body of Christ

Ephesians 4:4-6

4 There is one body and one Spirit-just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call- 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Central Truth

Our actions are determined by our beliefs and those beliefs are that Christ is the living head of this one body and one Spirit and one hope in our eternal life with Christ.  We are called to unity this side of eternity.

Devotional

It has taken me a long time to realize this truth, that I can’t make unity happen.  As a director of Bible Fellowship for about 20 years, I have learned that I need to trust the Holy Spirit to work in lives to produce unity.  In our Bible Fellowship class, we try to involve as many people as possible to bring about unity in the class.  God has given every person in our class a gift to be used in the church.  I have seen in so many ways how the Holy Spirit has worked in our class to bring about unity.

As Christians meet together we recognize and understand one another by praying for one another, being kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving.  We can do these things by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I have seen personally how our class is unified in ministering to the body by praying for the sick, visiting the widows, meeting the needs of the needy, preparing meals for someone that has broken bones, hip replacements, cancer, accidents and many others things.

Our actions are determined by our beliefs and those beliefs are that Christ is the living head of this one body and one Spirit and one hope in our eternal life with Christ.  We are called to unity this side of eternity.

Things that separate us are quarreling, bickering, unforgiveness, and struggling against one another. A body like this is totally ineffective in the community. God called us to unity.

Have others noticed peace, love, joy, forgiveness in you? Pray that the Spirit would unify us.

Questions to Ponder

  • In these verses, Paul lists seven elements of unity that are identified by the sevenfold uses of “one.” What are these seven elements?

  • Why are these elements important for Paul to list?

  • What issues separate believers that are not central to our faith?

Scripture Memory | May | Ephesians 4:15

“Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.”
