Adopted and Made Blameless

Adopted and Made Blameless

Ephesians 1:4-6

4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. 6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.

Central Truth

Because of Jesus we have been adopted by God and he sees us as blameless.

Great encouragement and comfort can be found in this short passage in regard to our standing with God.  HE chose us.  He CHOSE us.  He chose US!  Put the emphasis where you wish, but make no mistake that the one true God - Creator and Ruler of all - created love you...and to have relationship with you.

The passage says that we are adopted to God through Jesus.  We are children of God!  But I don't think that my closest personal comparison - my relationship with my kids or with my parents - comes close to what this indicates about God's love for us.  No matter how much I love my kids, I would probably respond with a chuckle if someone suggested they were "blameless."  Not so of our standing with God, who sees us as holy and blameless because of the grace we received through Jesus' death and resurrection.  This substitution - even if it is forever a challenge for us to fully reconcile or comprehend - is the basis of our greatest comfort.

The Lord is my light and my salvation.  Whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life!  Of whom shall I be afraid?  Psalm 27:1

Questions To Ponder

  • How does it feel to be chosen?

  • What is a believer’s standing before God?

  • What is the “good pleasure of His will”?

  • How does it make you feel knowing you are accepted by Jesus?

can stand against the Lord.

The horse is prepared for the day of battle,

but the victory belongs to the Lord.”
