Changed By Knowing Christ
20 You however did not come to know Christ that way. 21 Surely you heard of Him and were taught in Him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
There have been plenty of "seasons" in my life where I have "held on" to sin. I have continued with a certain behavior or perhaps a way of thinking that does not align with what the Bible teaches us. My journey with the Lord is ever growing and He is always revealing truths to me, convicting me, putting people and even music in my life to help draw me closer to Him. It seems obvious to say that we can't get closer to Christ through sin, sin moves us further from Him. We learned in verses 17-19 that the Gentiles had separated themselves from God because of their hardened hearts, their futile thinking and their "darkened" way of living. This is a picture of what a life without Christ looks like. Hard hearts, darkened ways, futile attempts, distance from God. But in verse 20, Paul talks about the changed life, changed because of a relationship with Christ. It is a transformation that happens to us as we grow to know and serve our Lord. In verse 20 Paul says "know Christ", this means we must "learn" who Christ is so we can begin to turn away from our sins and take root in who Jesus is. I will always be thankful for the ways the Lord has revealed Himself to me and taught me to "weed" out sin so it doesn't take root in my heart.
