18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Jesus is God’s Plan A to rescue and save people form their sin, and we are God’s Plan A for telling that message to others.
According to dictionary.com, an eyewitness is, “a person who actually sees some act, occurrence, or thing and can give a firsthand account of it.” If an individual has been born again through faith alone in Jesus, then he or she is an eyewitness to the gospel of Jesus. We were not physically present at Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, but if we have been saved by Him, then we have firsthand knowledge of His life, death, and resurrection’s power in our changed life.
Matthew 28:18-20 reminds us that we are commissioned by King Jesus to witness to others and teach them about the life changing gospel of Jesus. Acts 1:8 reminds us that we have not and will not do any of this in our power, but God’s power. We are rescued from sin and hell, but we are also rescued to the mission of God. Jesus is God’s Plan A to rescue and save people form their sin, and we are God’s Plan A for telling that message to others.
“If a commission by an earthly king is considered an honor, how can a commission by a Heavenly King be considered a sacrifice?” – David Livingston, missionary to Africa
