Honesty is the Only Policy

Honesty is the Only Policy

Proverbs 14:5

5 An honest witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies.

Central Truth

The world is watching Christians, so we must always be honest. Many lives have been ruined by people who have given false testimony. We can stand apart from the rest of the world by being a faithful witness.

One of the most difficult times in my life was when I ran for political office. I was not prepared for the lies that would be spread about me. The world has many false accusers, liars, traitors, and promise breakers. Faithful men and women are hard to find.

Jesus told us to be His witnesses. The responsibility of a witness in court is to simply tell the truth and do not lie. If we are going to be God’s honest and faithful witnesses, we should have a true witness to Him. Christians should never lie about who Jesus is or what He means to us.

Do you always tell the truth? Do your children hear you lie or exaggerate? Do you do what you say you are going to do? Do you speak honestly about other people? Do you tell the truth even when it is the hard thing to do?

You will be the only Bible some people will ever read. Show the world what an honest witness of truth looks like.

Questions To Ponder

  • What characteristics are being contrasted in this verse?

  • What does it mean to be prudent?

  • What do you see as the difference between the actions of the simple and prudent?

  • It’s apparent that God values the use of the brains he’s given us. Spend some time praying for wisdom and prudence from the Spirit.
