Seek the Lord’s Favor.

Seek the Lord’s Favor.

Proverbs 29:26

26 Many seek the ruler’s favor, but justice comes from the Lord.

Central Truth

Our favor does not come from others, but from the Lord. His favor far exceeds those of man.

In the world today, it’s easy to fall into the trap of finding favor from others. Social media can point to our flaws and others’ successes, television reminds us of life stories we don’t have, and others at work or maybe even in the church seem to tempt our minds to consider the idea that we must have an audience to please. We hope to find favor in others; bosses, directors, teachers, preachers, and the like.

There have been many times in my life I’ve felt as though I had to find favor from another individual. That I needed to be, act, respond, or maintain a lifestyle a certain way to please someone or hope they approve of my life and choices. It’s so easy to get swept-up in society and prey on people’s approval.

But God’s word, thankfully, shows us otherwise. Our favor should only be sought out from the Lord. He is a just God, we are told to fear him… this should determine our character, our responses, and the way we live daily. As follower’s of Christ, we are called to live in favor of our King, not the world. Our focus should always be on Christ, and when we seek favor from others, we are shifting the focus to ourselves.

I challenge you today to make a list of people or positions in life that you may find yourself hoping to find favor in. Pray over Proverbs 29:26 and ask God to tune your heart to constantly remember, that every day, our favor is in Him, not the world.

Authors Note

This specific verse is very close to my heart. As a young single mom, I often struggled with finding favor in others, but God has been faithful to remind me that He favors me and that is all that matters!
